SHU drops match to #22 Cornerstone

ADRIAN, Mich.– The Siena Heights women's volleyball team falls short to #22 Cornerstone University in a Friday night home game inside the SHU Fieldhouse. Snapping the nine-game win streak to become 10-2 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play, the Saints fell 1-3 to the visiting Golden Eagles.

Freshman Devyne Eisenhauer put away 13 kills for Siena while adding one assist and 11 digs to the stats. Kinsey Wagner boasted eight kills and three blocks during the match. While Claire VanDyke picked up 17 digs leading the Saints defensively. Setter Aubrey Bates earned 32 assists on top of two kills, two service aces, and 14 digs.

Trading blows back and forth, set one ended in a Saints victory thanks to an unstoppable SHU offense that totaled 16 kills. Opening with a strong service run SHU led Cornerstone 6-2 early in the second set. Although the Golden Eagles fought back to tie the set at 12-12 and ended the set 19-25.

With the match split 1-1, Siena kicked it up a gear trading point-for-point with the #22 ranked opponent. However, the Saints were unable to take the set, allowing Cornerstone to go up 1-2. The fourth and final set saw a valiant effort from the Siena Heights Saints, the match however would get away from them and ultimately end in a Golden Eagle victory, snapping the nine-game win streak.

Quote from Coach:

Well, I guess it was pretty obvious. It was a good start and a terrible ending. In order to be a great team, you have to be tough from start to end, and that is what we'll have to work on."
