Saints Finish 2022 SHU Volleyball Tournament 2-2

Adrian, Mich. -  The Siena Heights women's volleyball team competed on day two of the 2022 SHU Volleyball tournament at home in the Fieldhouse. Competing against Mount Vernon Nazarene in match one, which ended 1-3 in favor of the Cougars. Match two saw a 3-0 victory for the Saints over the Roosevelt Lakers. Bringing Siena's overall record to 4-5, at the end of the tournament.

Game 1: SHU, 1 vs. Mount Vernon Nazarene, 3

Kinsey Wagner led the Saints with 11 kills, one dig, and two blocks. Devyne Eisenhauer reached double-digit kills, holding 10 while picking up nine digs and two aces. Payton Osborne led the team in digs holding 19 and tallied six assists. Aubrey Bates put up 36 assists during the match and collected 17 digs, four kills, and two aces.

Starting off strong SHU claimed set one after coming back from a 13-7 deficit during Bates's service run. Which held four SHU kills and saw a lead change in favor of the home team. Continuing to fight point for point Siena muscled out the win, ending the set with a kill from Olivia Norman. The Cougars would win the next three sets, after gaining early leads that created a separation in points Siena could not overcome.

Game 2: SHU, 3 vs. Roosevelt, 0

Taylor Wegener paved the way for SHU boasting 11 kills and 10 digs along with one assist and two aces. Aubrey Bates tallied 26 assists, eight digs, and two kills. While Grace Wolf debuted in her collegiate career holding three kills. 

Set one saw big service runs from Wegner, Osborne, and Carsten that allowed SHU to put consecutive points on the board. Osborne camped out on the service line in set two as the Saints fell into a theme and went up 12-2 over the Lakers allowing for a Siena victory in set two. SHU would win set three to finish the tournament 2-2.

Awards: Number 14 Kinsey Wagner, a junior from Clayton, Michigan was named a member of the 2022 SHU Volleyball All-Tournament team. 

Quote from Coach: " We played a ranked opponent this morning (MVNU). While we did some very nice thigns offensivly, we still need to improve defensivly. Taylor Wegener broke out vs Roosevelt ( 11-0-23 with an attack percentage of .478). It was great to see her put it all together. Kinsey wagner was the most consistant player for us all wekkeend. She really didall of the little thigns that we ask her to do!"
