LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team took on No. 18 Cornerstone in the first of two Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament semifinal contests on Friday. The semifinals and finals are played at Madonna.
The third seed, Saints (25-7 overall) dropped the match in three sets to the second seed, Golden Eagles (26-6 overall). Set scores were 25-14, 25-10 and 25-17.
In the first set, SHU came out fighting, with the score dead even at 12-12. CU broke the tie and scored the next seven consecutive points to give them a 19-12 lead and the Saints could not recover.
Set two began close just like the first, but again, Cornerstone erupted for a nine point run and the Saints were unable to make a comeback.
In the final set, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 6-1 lead, but the Saints were not finished. SHU rallied back and regained the lead at 10-9. The score remained close, but Cornerstone went on another run to score the last six points of the contest.
Christine Tylutki finished with a team high, ten kills. Amanda Metz dished out 18 assists while Gabrielle Kalugar completed the match with 14 digs. Four Saints finished with one block -- Libby Breton, Ashleigh Shay, Taylor Purcell and Metz.
With the loss, the Saints will conclude it's 2017 season with a 25-7 overall record and a 10-5 regular season, conference record.
