Women's Volleyball 2016 Season Wrap-Up

Under the guidance of head coach Kim Berrington, the Siena Heights University women's volleyball team finished the 2016 season with a 21-12 overall record and an 8-8 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference record. In 33 matches SHU averaged 11.05 kills per set, 10.36 assists per set, 1.90 blocks per set, 1.43 service aces per set and 17.26 digs per set.

Freshman Paige Hudgin was named the team's Most Valuable Player for the season. Hudgin led the team in kills (390), kills per set (3.36), points (433.5) and points per set (3.7). She was also selected as the WHAC Newcomer of the Year and the only freshman to be named to the All-Conference First Team. She was also a member of the All-Freshman team.

Amanda Metz won the Most Improved Player award. Metz led the team in assists (1022), assists per set (8.81), service aces (39) and service aces per set (0.34). She was also a member of the All-Conference Second Team.

Eriona Chambers earned the Teammate Award for the Saints while Anna Tartarian and Gabrielle Kalugar were named Co-Coach's award winners. Tartarian led the team in matches played (33). Kalugar led the team in digs (550) and in digs per set (5.14). Kalugar was also a member of the All-Conference Second Team and ranks 39th in digs per game (5.180).

Junior Libby Breton was team's Kathy Frank award winner for the season. Breton led the team in total blocks (97) and blocks per set (0.85). She was also selected to the Champions of Character team as well as being a part of the All-WHAC Academic Team and the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team. In order to be eligible for this award, the student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale, have completed one full year at the nominating institution, and compete in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. Breton is the first women's volleyball player to receive All-American status from CoSIDA.

Communication major Julie Bonk and nursing major Abby Whitehead were members of the All-WHAC Academic Team. Bonk, Breton and Whitehead were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. In order to be nominated as a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, the student-athlete must maintain a minimum of a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior status.
