Women's Volleyball Drops Final Regular Season Match to Aquinas in WHAC Match

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team travled to take on Aquinas in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match up and their final regular season match. The Saints dropped the match in five sets with scores of 25-19, 25-16, 11-25, 21-25 and 11-15. 

Paige Hudgin led the SHU (20-11, 8-8 WHAC) offense with 14 kills and also added 25 digs. Amanda Metz dished out 35 assists and completed two aces in the match to led the Saints. 

Gabrielle Kalugar finished with 34 digs while Libby Breton assisted on blocking three Aquinas attacks. 

Aquinas (17-13, 7-9 WHAC) was led by Maddie Ingraham with 16 kills, Booke Wieland with 49 assists and Katlyn Agren with 33 digs.

SET-BY-SET

Set one: Siena Heights 25, Aquinas 19
Aquinas took an early 2-7 lead, but the SHU Saints were able to make a comeback and eventually tied the set at 11-11. SHU then took off on a 7-0 run that made the score 23-15 and AQ was not able to recover.

Set two: Siena Heights 25, Aquinas 16
The Saints ran off with an early 6-0 run making the score 8-3. Siena Heights was able to hold off Aquinas for the remainder of the set.

Set three: Siena Heights 11, Aquinas 25
Aquinas was in control from the beginning when they started the set on a 5-0 run. The SHU Saints were not able to respond to the AQ Saints runs and dropped the third set.

Set four: Siena Heights 21, Aquinas 25
Siena Heights started with a 4-0 run but Aquinas responded with a 4-0 run of their own, and eventually tying the set at 9-9. Scores and short runs were traded until Aquinas pulled away on another 4-0 run setting the score at 20-23 and held off SHU to complete the set four victory.

Set five: Siena Heights 11, Aquinas 15
Aquinas took control of the match right away, after rattling off a 4-0 run. The Saints battled but were not able to complete a set comeback and dropped the match.

Next up, the Siena Heights women's volleyball team will head into post season play with the WHAC quarterfinals on Saturday. Time and opponent were not finalized at the time of release.
