Women's Volleyball Takes Down Aquinas

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team held off Aquinas for a 3-1 decision in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match Wednesday at the SHU Fieldhouse. 

Leze Vukaj had 13 kills to lead the Saints while Libby Breton, Abby Whitehead and Ashleigh Shay all contributed eight kills.

Also for SHU (19-10, 11-9), Carly Tillotson accumulated 34 assists and 10 digs. Nicole Morgan and Haley Mercy finished with 15 and 10 digs, respectively.

For Aquinas (19-14, 10-10), Michaela Ryan and Micaela Hazen led the way with 12 kills each. Brooke Wieland had 41 assists and Katlyn Agren finished with 25 digs.

Set one: Siena Heights 20, Aquinas 25
The Saints opened the set with a 3-0 run. Aquinas battled back to tie the set at 10-all and added a 3-0 run. SHU tied the match at 14-, 15-, 16- and 17-all before Aquinas took command and finished set one.

Set two: Siena Heights 25, Aquinas 15
Siena Heights took command of set two after breaking a 3-3 tie with a 3-0 run. SHU held the lead to tie the match 1-1.

Set three: Siena Heights 26, Aquinas 24
SHU and Aquinas tied the third set 13 times. The final five ties at 20-, 21-, 22-, 23- and 24-all. SHU won the set on two attacking errors by Aquinas.

Set four: Siena Heights 25, Aquinas 17
The Saints opened the final set with an 8-2 lead and sailed to the victory.

The Saints will finish out the regular season with a match against Lawrence Tech at noon and against Marygrove at 3 p.m. in a WHAC pool play hosted at Lawrence Tech.
