Women's Volleyball Finishes Weekend With Four Wins

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team finished the Aquinas/Cornerstone Classic with a pair of wins. SHU swept Spring Arbor and Saint Francis, 3-0 and 3-0 on Saturday.

Against Spring Arbor, SHU (16-9) was led by Leze Vukaj, who had 13 kills and Taylor Felver, who added nine kills.

 Carly Tillotson finished with a solid linescore of 33 assists, four kills, five aces and 10 digs. Nicole Morgan had a pair of aces and led the team on defense with 14 digs.  
For Spring Arbor (5-23), Kasey Follis, Courtney Kyser and Rebekah Kujat had eight kills each. Follis and Annica Stotz each finished with 16 assists while Kayleigh Bytwerk chipped in 13 and Stotz and Follis each tacked on 11.

Versus Saint Francis, Siena Heights was led by Felver with 13 kills and Vukaj added 11. Tillotson finished match two with 35 assists and three aces and Morgan added 16 digs.

For Saint Francis (11-20), Sara Clark led the way with nine kills. Chloe Hubner finished with 16 assists and Carrie Clark added 15 digs.

MATCH ONE
Set one: Siena Heights 25, Spring Arbor 21
The Saints took an early 4-3 lead and kept the lead to finish the set.

Set two: Siena Heights 27, Spring Arbor 25
SHU opened set two with a 4-2 run. Spring Arbor would tie the match at 4-all. The set would tie another seven times – 9, 14, 15, 18, 19, 24 and finally 25-all. SHU won the last two points with a kill by Abby Whitehead and an ace from Haley Mercy.

Set three: Siena Heights 25, Spring Arbor 16
Siena Heights opened the final set of match one with a 4-1 run and added to its lead with a 11-1 run.

MATCH TWO
Set one: Siena Heights 25, Saint Francis 19

Siena Heights opened set one by trading runs with Saint Francis. The set was tied a total of seven time – the final one at 18-all – before SHU settled down and take control.

Set two: Siena Heights 25, St. Francis (Ind.) 19
The Saints started set two slow and let the Cougars stick around to tie the set six times before SHU grabbed the lead and held on to it. SHU went on a 3-1 run to finish.

Set three: Siena Heights 25, St. Francis (Ind.) 22
SHU and the Cougars tied eight times early in the set -- the final one being at 11-11 when the Saints went on a 4-1 run. Saint Francis went on a late 3-0 run, tying the set for the final time at 18-all. Siena Heights broke the tie and held the lead.

 

The Saints will travel to Livonia to face 22nd-ranked Madonna on Wednesday at 7 p.m. for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup.
