Women's Volleyball Falls at Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team fell to Davenport, 3-1, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play Wednesday.

Leze Vukaj had 14 kills and three total blocks to lead the Saints, who lost with set scores of 23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-23.

Abby Whitehead and Ashleigh Shay added 12 kills apiece for SHU. Carly Tillotson totaled 43 assists. Nicole Morgan finished with 20 digs. SHU had eight aces; three from Morgan and two from Tillotson.

In the first set, Siena Heights (10-6, 6-6) traded runs with Davenport until DU gained control with a 23-19 lead. SHU battled back and went on a 6-0 run to finish the set and take a 1-0 match lead.

In set two, Davenport (13-12, 7-5) took an early lead and the Saints came back for a final tie at 13-all before Davenport regained control and finished the set.

In set three, DU grabbed a three-point lead until SHU went on a 3-0 run, tying it at 4-4. The set was tied five additional times -- the final one being at 14-14 -- before Davenport closed the set with a 11-5 run to take a 2-1 match lead.

In the fourth set, the Panthers grabbed the early lead and held it through the set. The Saints were able to pull within two points twice before Davenport finished the match.

The Panthers were led by Marcy DeHaan with 19 kills and four blocks. Molly Lameyer and Ashley Vanderhorst had 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Sydney Tracer finished the match with 49 assists. Morgan Torres led the DU defense with 19 digs.

SHU will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 14, as it heads to Northwestern Ohio for a 7 p.m. WHAC matchup.
