Tough Outing For Women's Volleyball at Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Cornerstone in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.

Ashleigh Shay and Leze Vukaj had eight kills and three total blocks apiece for the Saints, who lost by set scores of 25-14, 25-8, 25-23.

Carly Tillotson compiled 20 assists and 15 digs while Haley Mercy and Nicole Morgan ended with 12 and 10 digs, respectively. Libby Breton also had three total blocks.

The Saints struggled through much of the first two sets before taking a 6-2 advantage in the third. The Golden Eagles, who received votes in the latest NAIA poll, responded with a 6-2 stretch of their own to forge an 8-all tie.

Later, CU snapped a 23-23 knot with two straight points to end the match.

Chelsea Lake had 11 kills and 10 digs to lead the Cornerstone effort. ellie Van Laar added eight kills while Hope Leppink finished with 31 assists.

Also, Amber Carmean had 22 digs, Megan Newhouse made 15 digs and Johanna Egerer contributed four total blocks.

The Saints will be in action next on Wednesday, Sept. 23, when they host nationally-ranked Madonna in their "Teal Attack" game.
