Women's Volleyball Outlasts #RV Cornerstone in Five Sets

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team outlasted Cornerstone for a 3-2 victory in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Halie Baker compiled 12 kills and six total blocks while Leze Vukaj contributed 10 kills and 11 total blocks for the Saints (5-4, 2-3), who won the match, 27-25, 19-25, 25-17, 20-25, 15-8.

Carly Tillotson made 34 assists and 14 digs while Nicole Morgan and Haley Mercy contributed 15 and 14 digs, respectively.

SHU trailed by as many as five points in the first set at 12-7, but eventually pulled even at 21-all before Abby Whitehead and Emily Abbs provided kills to end the set.

The Saints fell behind, 9-4, in the second and were unable to recover, but then maintained a lead for the entire third set. The third set included a 5-0 SHU in which Abbs had two kills and one block.

In the fourth set, Cornerstone snapped a 18-18 knot with a 7-2 run and forced the deciding set.

During the fifth, the Saints used a six-point run to take command and never looked back.

Heather Green had 13 kills and 18 digs to lead Cornerstone (9-3, 3-2) while Cailie Schultz and Ellie Van Laar contributed 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Hope Leppink had 44 assists and Amber Carmean made 27 digs for the Golden Eagles, who received votes in the latest NAIA poll.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, when they visit ninth-ranked Madonna for a 7 p.m. match.
