Fugate Autos Twice, Nowell Also Hits Standard as Women's T&F Opens Outdoor Season

SPRING ARBOR and EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's outdoor track and field team opened the season over the weekend at Spring Arbor's Bill Bippes Cougar Classic and Michigan State's Invitational.

Pole vaulter Tyler Fugate hit NAIA automatic-qualifying marks at both events. She won the Cougar Classic with a height of 12 feet, 3 1/2 inches (3.75 meters). She was followed by runner-up Samantha Nowell, who had an auto 11-11 3/4 (3.65m), and Margherita Conrad, who cleared a provisional 11-7 3/4 (3.55m).

Fugate's auto height at Michigan State was 12-1 1/2 (3.70m). She placed ninth in East Lansing.
