Fugate Hits Top NAIA Height in Vault as #16 Women's T&F wins Kleinow Memorial

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Siena Heights pole vaulter Tyler Fugate hit the top height in the NAIA outdoor season as the 16th-ranked Saints' women's track and field team earned seven first-place finishes en route to winning the Don Kleinow Memorial team championship on Friday at O'Laughlin Stadium.

Fugate led yet another strong day by SHU's pole vault squad as five different women hit NAIA automatic-qualifying heights. Her vault of 3.95 meters (12 feet, 11 1/2 inches) led the field.

Margherita Conrad also reached a new height while recording an auto of 3.90m (12-9 1/2) to place second. Erica Albrecht and Chasity Mies tied for fourth at 3.70m (12-1 1/2) and Samantha Nowell added an auto of 3.65m (11-11 3/4).

Faith Jackson and Emma Valentine came through with provisional-qualifying marks. Jackson won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.52 seconds and Valentine cleared 1.65m (5-5) to win the high jump.

Linnearia Richards and Emily Monroe helped the SHU women sweep the hurdle events. Richards took first in the 400 hurdles with a 1:05.43 and Monroe ran the 3,000 steeplechase in a winning time of 12:32.57.

The Saints earned victories in the 4x100 and 4x400 relay races.

The 4x100 team of Jackson, Albrecht, Richards and Jenna-Ann Johnson finished in 48.19. The 4x400 of Jenna Salek, Alexis Cordle, Bailey McCulloch and Richards had a time of 4:09.64.

Erin Gotha recorded a second-place finish in the hammerthrow with a distance of 48.07m (157-8). Narpreet Singh was third in the javelin with a 36.02m (118-2).

In team scoring, SHU's 95 points were the best among 21 schools. Calvin was second with 53 and Detroit Mercy finished third with 52.
