Vaulters Record Four Auto Performances as Women's Track and Field Begins Outdoor Campaign

EAST LANSING, Mich., and SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Four Siena Heights pole vaulters hia NAIA Championships automatic-qualifying marks, led by runner-up finishes by Tyler Fugate and Margherita Conrad, as the Siena Heights women's outdoor track and field team opened its season on Friday and Saturday.

The Saints competed at two events over the weekend: the Spartan Invitational at Michigan State and the Bill Bippes Cougar Classic at Spring Arbor.

At Michigan State, Fugate and Conrad led the vaulters with their tie for second. Both cleared 3.80 meters (12 feet, 5 1/2 inches). Erica Albrecht placed fourth, also hitting 3.80m (12-5 1/2), while Samantha Nowell took sixth with a 3.65m (11-11 3/4).

Faith Jackson was runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.05 seconds. Teammate Linnearia Richards took fifth in 15.40s.

Daijah Hill and Emma Valentine finished third and fourth, respectively, in the high jump. Both cleared 1.64m (5-4 1/2).

Tiffani Larder stretched to fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.10m (33-1 3/4).

At Spring Arbor, throwers Erin Gotha and Narpreet Singh had a pair of Top 5 finishes each.

Gotha won the hammer throw with a distance of 45.96m (150-9) while Singh took fourth with a 38.00m (124-8). Singh added a third-place finish in the javelin at 33.28m (109-2) while Gotha threw to fifth in the discus with a 33.55m (110-1).

Akiyah Ash finished fifth in the shot put with an 11.40m (37-5).

At Michigan State, Cunningham registered a winning distance of 53.61 meters (175 feet, 11 inches) in the javelin. Teammate Jonah Siekman placed runner-up with a throw of 47.13m (154-7).

Cunningham clocked in at 14.29 seconds in the 110 hurdles to earn his ticket in the event to NAIA Outdoor Nationals.

Matthew Gipple had a pair of Top 3 finishes at MSU, taking second in the long jump with a 7.09m (23-3 1/4) and third in the 100 with a 10.90s.

Savion Tyler finished third in the high jump with a 1.89m (6-2 1/4).

At Spring Arbor, thrower Jefferson Edwards had fourth-place finishes in the shot put and discus. His shot distance was 14.04m (46-0 3/4) and his discus toss was 40.15m (131-9).
