Tyler Fugate Achieves National Runner Up in Pole Vault After Day One of the NAIA Outdoor National Championships

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The 2021 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Outdoor Track and Field National Championships kicked off on Wednesday, May 26, in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Tyler Fugate highlighted the day for the Siena Heights women's outdoor track and field team. She fell .05 meters short of claiming the national championship in the pole vault.

Fugate's career-best mark of 4.00 meters (13-1 ½) was enough to finish as the national runner-up in the event. The second-place finish also secures the first NAIA All-America honor of her career.

Jaymz Gibson also competed in the pole vault for the Saints. She cleared the bar at the 3.65-meter (11-11 ¾) mark, a personal best for her collegiate career, on her third attempt. The career-best height placed her just two spots out from All-America status in 10th place.

Kierra Rice will compete in the first round of the 100-meter hurdles today. She is tied for second in the NAIA with her 14.00 time she achieved at the Hillsdale Last Chance Classic a few weeks ago. Rice is positioned fourth in heat two of the event today, which begins at 4:00 p.m., CDT.
