Kierra Rice and Tyler Fugate Crownd WHAC Champion as Women's Track and Field Finishes Fifth at WHAC Outdoor Championships

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Siena Heights women's track and field team finished the 2021 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships with 73 points for fifth in the team standings. Kierra Rice and Tyler Fugate were both crowned league champions in the two-day event. Rice won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.22 and Fugate finished atop the pole vault event after clearing the bar at 3.76m, a career-best height for her. Fugate and Rice were also given a spot on the All-WHAC first team for their performances.

Rice was also one of the fourth-place finishing 4x100 Relay team members with Chelsea Short, McKenna Russell, and Jaymz Gibson that finished the race in 49.78 seconds. Jaymz Gibson finished behind Fugate in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.55m. Along with her second-team All-WHAC showing in the pole vault, she also finished third in the javelin with a toss of 32.00m for a spot on the All-WHAC third team.

Manon Lutze was fourth in the shot put with a heave of 11.74m to just miss out on all-conference recognition. McKenna Russell was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.24. The 4x400 relay team consisting of McKenna Russell, Baleigh Irelan, Kierra Rice, and Chelsea Short was fifth with a time of 4:11.04. Samantha Nowell was the final top-five finisher for Siena Heights in the pole vault with a successful jump of 3.35m.
