CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Siena Heights women's track and field team opened the 2021 outdoor season by competing at the Cedarville University Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open on Saturday, March 27. The Saints finished with 29 points to claim the eighth spot on the team standings. That placing was the highest for any NAIA women's team at the meet.

TOP SAINT FINISHERS

Kierra Rice was the top performer for the Saints as she claimed second place in the 100-meter hurdles with a B-Standard time of 14.63. She was just a half-second behind the leader and was the highest NAIA finisher in the race.

Mehgan Godfrey claimed third in the triple jump with a leap of 10.55m. She matched the placing of Rice and her team as the best NAIA finisher in the event. She also competed in the long jump where she finished 16th with a mark of 4.82m.

Chelsea Short was the best NAIA finisher in both the 200 and 400-meter events. Her time of 26.06 in the 200 was a personal best and put her 10th in the standings. A 59.85 time in the 400 was good enough for fourth. Both of her times were the best marks for an NAIA student-athlete at the meet.

The 4x100 relay team consisting of Jaymz Gibson, Tyler Fugate, Chelsea Short, and McKenna Russell finished sixth with a time of 51.78. They finished ahead of the other two NAIA 4x100 relay teams that competed.

Freshman McKenna Russel also competed in the 400-meter hurdles and set a college-best time of 1:08.66 in the event to finish seventh. Jaymz Gibson and Samantha Nowell tied for seventh in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.22m on their third attempt. Gibson also threw the javelin 34.92m for ninth place. All these marks topped the other NAIA competitors in their respective events.
