Women's Track and Field Finishes First at Aquinas Classic

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's indoor track and field team finished atop the team standings with 178 points at the Aquinas Classic. Junior Kierra Rice highlighted the day for the Saints as she won both the 60-meter hurdles (9.11, 15th NAIA) and the 60-meter dash (8.26). She also finished third in the 200m with a time of 27.96.

McKenna Russell won the 400m (1:03.73) and finished one-spot behind the leader in the 200m (27.90). Alexi Cordle finished first in the 800m with a time of 2:33.90. The 4x400 relay team consisting of Chelsea Short, Baleigh Irelan, Stephanie Reed, and McKenna Russell won the event with a time of 4:33.22. Four more Saints won their respective events: Brianna Hatfield won the high jump with an 18th-ranked 1.58m mark, Tyler Fugate and Samantha Nowell tied to win the pole vault at 3.42m, and Mehgan Godfrey won the triple jump with a leap of 10.19m.

Godfrey finished second in the long jump with a mark of 4.85m. Emily Monroe was second in the mile with a time of 5:41.08. Chelsea Short finished the 400m in 1:04.64 to claim second in the event and Rachel Wiltse crossed the finish line in the 3,000 with a time of 11:38.75 to pick up a second-place finish.

Irelan tallied a third (60 hurdles, 9.98) and a fourth-place finish (200m, x28.50) on the day. Isabelle Uganski recorded a 12:38.39 finish in the 3,000 for third. Samantha Scott was third in the high jump at 1.53m. Abigail Bansen finished third in the triple jump (9.44m) and fourth in the long jump (4.47m).

The Saints travel to Hillsdale next weekend on February 5 and 6 to compete in the Hillsdale Wide Track Open.
