Women's Track & Field Wins WHAC vs. MIAA Challenge

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's track and field team finished atop the team standings of the WHAC vs. MIAA Challenge at Aquinas on Friday night. The Saints won seven events to total 212 points to take the win at the meet. Asia Gardner won both the 200-meter run and the long jump. She finished the 200m with a B-Standard time of 25.81. Her long jump leap was 5.36m (17-7). She also finished second in the 60m with a time of 7.89.

Chelsea Short finished first in the 400m with a time of 59.92. Xochitl Garcia won the 3k with a time of 10:56.48. The 4x400 relay team consisting of Sierra Hernandez, Chelsea Short, Kira Harris, and Alexis Cordle won with a time of 4:18.48. Jaymz Gibson cleared the pole vault bar at an A-Standard mark of 3.52m (11-6.5) to win the event. Julia Forbes had the last first-place finish in the triple jump. Her mark of 11.30m (37-1) was a B-Standard and has her ranked sixth in the WHAC and 19th in the NAIA in that event. She also tallied a second-place finish in the long jump (5.33m) and third in the 60m (7.95).

Brianna Martin finished the 1,000 in 3:35.73 for second and the mile in 5:47.34 for fourth. Kierra Rice was 2nd in the 60 hurdles with an A-Standard time of 8.86. Madelyn Birmingham finished the 400m in third with a time of 1:04.49. Alexis Cordle was third in the 800m with a time of 2:29.21. Rachel Wiltse was third in the 1k with a time of 3:36.20. Stephanie Reed cleared the high jump bar at 1.60m (5-3) for third and Samantha Nowell placed third in the pole vault at 3.27m (10-8.75). Madisyn Kleinschmit (200m, 26.78), Sierra Hernandez (400m, 1:04.5), Brianna Hatfield (High Jump, 1.55m), and Mollie Smith (Pole Vault, 3.12m) each finished fourth in their respective events.

The Saints will return to Aquinas to compete in the WHAC Indoor Championships next Saturday, February 22.
