Women's Track and Field Finds Success at the Circle Logistics Warrior Invite

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Siena Heights women's track and field team earned a first place finish, four automatic and two provisional performances at the Circle Logistics Warrior Invite hosted by Indiana Tech, on Saturday.

Charlena Williams earned the lone first place of the meet for SHU, winning the triple jump with a provisional distance of 11.22 meters (36-9 3/4) to rank fifth in the NAIA. Mildrenae Young-Brooks took third at 10.83m (35-6 1/2) wile Julia Forbes managed fifth with 10.49m (34-5).

Asia Gardner was the top NAIA finisher in both the 60m dash and the 200m dash, earning an automatic bid in both events while taking second behind an unattached runner. She finished the 60m in 7.68 seconds in the final and a season-best 7.67 in the preliminary heat. In the 200m dash, Gardner finished in 25.10 seconds. She ranks second in the NAIA in both events.

In the long jump, Young-Brooks went 5.61 meters (18-5) to take fifth place and an automatic bid. Gardner had a provisional performance of 5.49m (18-1/4), taking seventh.

In the 60m hurdles, Kierra Rice managed an automatic time of 8.96 seconds as she finished third to rank her fourth in the NAIA.

Clearing the bar a 1.55m (5-1) in the high jump was Stephanie Reed with a season-best performance, earning third place.

Brianna Pekel took sixth place in the 400m run with a time of 1:00.78, currently ranking third in the NAIA.

Siena Heights will return to action on Friday, Jan. 12, at the Saginaw Vally State Invite and the Grand Valley State Mike Lints Open.
