Women's Track & Field Garners Eight All-Americans at NAIA Championships

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The Siena Heights women's track and field team closed out the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with six All-American honors in the final day of the meet, on Saturday. The Saints ended the meet with eight All-Americans while participating in 11 different events.

In the two previous days of action, SHU had two All-Americans in the pole vault: Sheila McKinley and Tasha McKinley.

Marissa Johnson was runner-up in the high jump via tiebreaker. She cleared the bar at 1.74 meters (5 feet, 8 1/2 inches) to take second while winner Becky Collier (Westmont) cleared 1.77m (5-9 3/4).

The Saints 4x100m relay team claimed third place, crossing the finish line at 45.24 seconds. WHAC foe Indiana Tech won the event with a time of 45.21 seconds. The team consisted of Mildrenae Young-Brooks, Emily Hill, Alexis Moore and Asia Gardner.

Gardner earned All-American status in three different events during the NAIA Championships: 4x100m relay, 100m dash and the 200m dash. In the 100m dash, Gardner finished eighth with a time of 12.02 seconds. She also took eighth in the 200m dash, coming in at 24.56 seconds.

In the 400 meter dash, Moore took home eighth place with a time of 57.19 seconds to garner her second All-American honor on the day.

Ashley O'Neill earned All-American status in the discus throw with an eighth place throw of 45.24 meters (148-5 1/4).

Siena Heights ends their season with a ninth place finish at the NAIA Championships with 25 points. Winning the meet with 75 points was Wayland Baptist (Texas).
