Women's Track and Field Finishes Fourth at GVSU

ALLENDALE, Mich.  -- The Siena Heights women's track and field team finished fourth at the Mike Lints Alumni Open hosted by Grand Valley State, including five automatic-qualifying, three provisional-qualifying and a first place performance, on Saturday. The Saints competed in the Don and Riley Zimmer Classic hosted by Trine on Friday, earning three first place and an automatic-qualifying performance.

Winning the high jump for SHU was Marissa Johnson. She cleared an automatic-height of 1.66m (5-5 ¼).

Tasha McKinley earned second place in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.75m (12-3 ½). Sheila McKinley took sixth, clearing 3.6m (11-9 ¾). Both vaults clearing an automatic-qualifying height.

In the 200m dash, Asia Gardner finished third with an automatic qualifying time on 25.11 seconds on the oversized track. Gardner also took fourth in the 60m dash with a provisional-qualifying time of 7.84 seconds.

Alexis Moore finished fifth in the 400m run, crossing the finish line at an automatic-qualifying time of 57.24 seconds.

Finishing third in the 600m dash was Brianna Pekel at 1:37.33, a provisional-qualifying time.

The Saints finished sixth in the 4x400m relay with a provisional-qualifying time of 4:01.39. The team consisted of Emily Hill, Mariah Ridal, Moore and Pekel.

DON & RILEY ZIMMER CLASSIC – Trine – January 27, 2017

Breaking the previous SHU 60m dash record was Asia Gardner, finishing in 7.69 seconds to earn third place and an automatic-qualifying time.

Olivia Ryktarsyk won the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.35m while Taylor Sumner too second at 3.20m.

Mildrenae Young-Brooks won both the long jump and the triple jump, going 5.23 meters and 10.92m, respectively.

In the 3000m run, Alejandra Beltran claimed second place with a time of 11:32.39.

Earning third place in the women's high jump was Morgan Kulwicki, clearing 1.55m.

Next up, the Saints will travel to Hillsdale for a two-day meet on Friday and Saturday.
