Women's Track & Field Overwhelms Competition at Aquinas Quad Meet #2

The Siena Heights women's track and field team took first place at the Aquinas Quad Meet #2, on Friday. SHU finished with 12 first place finishes, seven automatic-qualifying performances and seven provisional qualifying performances.

As a team, the Saints earned 215 points to overwhelm the competition. Second place Aquinas scored 145 points while Spring Arbor earned 111 and Hope 88.

Sheila McKinley cleared a career-best 3.84m (12-7.25) in the pole-vault to take first place and the No. 2 vault in the NAIA. Tasha McKinley also cleared an automatic-qualifying mark of 3.66m (12-0) for second-place.

With the second-ranked time in the NAIA, Ashley Russo took first place in the 1000m run with a career-best and automatic-qualifying time of 3:00.95.

Alexis Moore won the 200m dash in an automatic-qualifying time of 25.51 seconds. She was followed by Asia Gardner at 25.84 seconds, a provisional time. Moore also took first in the 400m run with a provisional-qualifying time of 58.88 seconds.

Two Saints improved to automatic-qualifying marks in the triple jump, Mildrenae Young-Brooks and Charlena Williams. Young-Brooks took first place with a leap of 11.47m (37-7.75) while Williams flew 11.34 meters (37-2.5).

Marissa Johnson cleared the high jump bar at 1.68 meters (5 feet, 6 inches) to earn first place with the automatic-qualifying mark.

Siena Heights clinched the two spots in the 60m dash with two provisional time of 7.81 and 7.84 seconds by Asia Gardner and Mildrenae Young-Brooks, respectively.

In the 4x400m relay, the Saints earned a provisional-qualifying time of 4:02.63 and took first place. SHU finished third in the 4x800 meter relay, crossing the finish line at 10:19.37.

Again in the weight throw, the Saints claimed six of the top eight places led by A. O'Neill with a provisional toss of 16.08m (52 feet, 9.25 inches) for first place. R. O'Neill finished second with a 15.39m (50-6) toss as Emily Couture finished third with a toss of 15.38m (50-5.5).

In the 600m run, Brianna Pekel crossed the finish line at a provisional-qualifying time of 1:38.57 to earn second place.

Mariah Ridal took first place in the 800m run finishing in 2:23.00, which was over four seconds faster than the second-place performer.

Gardner won the long jump with a distance of 5.34m (17 feet, 6.25 inches).

In the shot put, Siena Heights filled seven of the top eight spots led by Ashley O'Neill who finished first with a toss of 12.67m (41-7). Earning first and second was Makayla Kaser and Rachel O'Neill, respectively, with tosses of 11.74m (38-6.25) and 11.55m (37-10.75).

Siena Heights will return to action when they travel to Trine on Friday and Grand Valley State on Saturday.
