Women's Track and Field Find Success at SVSU Classic

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Siena Heights women's track and field team earned five first place finishes, with five automatic and two provisional qualifying performances, at the Saginaw Valley State Classic, on Saturday.

In the weight throw, Ashley O'Neill won with a season-best and automatic-qualifying mark of 16.82m (55 feet, 2.25 inches). Also improving their distances was Emily Couture and Rachel O'Neill. Couture took third with a 15.37 meter (50-5.25) toss while R. O'Neill threw 14.57 (47 feet, 9.75 inches) for fourth.

Tying for first in the pole vault was Tasha McKinley and Sheila McKinley. Each cleared the bar at an auto height of 3.64 meters (11-11.25).

Marissa Johnson took first in the high jump, clearing the bar at an automatic-qualifying height of 1.73 meters (5-8) for her best jump of the season. Jaymz Gibson finished third with a 1.48m (4-10.25) clearing jump.

Earning an automatic-qualifying in the 400m dash was Alexis Moore. She finished in a season-best 58.10 for third place on the oversized track.

Asia Gardner finished first in the 60m dash with a provisional-qualifying time of 7.85 seconds. Taking second and forth was Mildrenae Young-Brooks and Emily Hill, respectively, finishing in 7.91 and 8.17 seconds.

Charlena Williams flew a provisional-qualifying distance of 11.10m (36-5) in the triple jump to earn first place and a season-best distance. Young-Brooks took second with a distance of 10.68 meters (35-0.5).

SHU swept the top-three spots in the 200m dash, Gardner taking first at an auto-time of 25.43 seconds. She was followed by Moore at 25.91 seconds and Young-Brooks at 26.41 seconds.

Siena Heights finished in the five of the top seven spots in the shot put, all throwers improving their marks. A. O'Neill earned third with a toss of 12.80m (42-0) as R. O'Neill finished fourth with a toss of 12.00 meters (39-4.5). Makayla Kaser rounded-out the top five, throwing 11.82 meters (38 feet, 9.5 inches).

Improving on her 800m time was Ashley Russo, taking third in 2:19.99 for third place.

Kristen Stobinski finished fourth in the 3000 meter run, improving her season-best to 11:10.01.

The Saints will be back in action on Friday at the Aquinas Quad Meet and Saturday at the Findlay Classic.
