Women's Track & Field Open 2017 With Second Place Finish at Hillsdale Invitational

HILLSDALE, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's track and field team finished second overall at the Hillsdale Winter Opener. There were three first place finishes for the Saints, one provisional-qualifiers and four automatic-qualifiers.

Wayne State won the meet with 133 points to SHU's 121 second place scoring. In third was the host, Hillsdale with a score of 105.5.

In the 60m dash, Asia Gardner took first place with a provisional-qualifying time of 7.77 seconds.

Marissa Johnson finished first in the high jump with an automatic-qualifying height of 5 feet, 4.5 inches (1.65m).

Also taking first place for the Saints was Tasha McKinley in pole vault with an automatic-qualifying height of 12 feet, 1.5 inches (3.70m). Sheila McKinley finished second with an automatic-qualifying height of 11 feet, 6.5 inches (3.55m).

Alexis Moore finished second overall in the 400m dash with a time of 59.77 seconds and also finished third in the 200m dash with a time of 25.99 seconds.

Earning second place for SHU was Brianna Pekel in the 600m run with a time of 1:43.11 and Ashley Russo in the 1000m run finishing with a time of 3:05.64.

In shot put, Ashley O'Neill finished third overall with a throw of 41 feet, 7.5 inches (12.73m).

The Saints will be back in action on Saturday, January 14, for the SVSU Invitational.
