Renshaw Weight Throw Win Leads Women's Track & Field Indoor Season Opener

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- Kasey Renshaw won the weight throw with an NAIA automatic-qualifying performance as the women's indoor track and field team opened its season at the Saginaw Valley Holiday Classic on Friday. The Saints totaled four event wins, nine auto performance and five provisionals.

Renshaw threw for a SHU record of 65 feet, 4 inches (19.91 meters), which is further than the current NAIA record. She also threw an auto distance of 45 feet, 6.5 inches (13.88 meters) in shot put, claiming second place.

Haley Hudson had an auto performance with a throw of 45-3 (13.79m) in shot put. Rebecca Cousineau had a provisional performance of 42 feet 6.75 inches (12.97 meters). Cousineau threw a provisional distance in the weight throw of 52-7.5 (16.04 meters).

The women's pole vaulters found success with three automatic performances. Sheila McKinley and Tasha McKinley tied for second place via tiebreaker, clearing the vault at 11 feet, 11.25 inches (3.64m). Madison Pierce tied for fourth with a height of 11-05.25 (3.49 meters).

High jumpers Marissa Johnson and Phoenix Duncan added automatics. Both cleared 5-8 (1.73m) with Johnson taking first place over second place Duncan via tiebreaker. Amber Koprin hit past the provisional mark by clearing the bar at 5 feet 4.25 inches (1.63 meters).

In the 60 meter hurdles, Stephanie Marquart ran an auto time of 8.92 seconds.

Mildrenae Young-Brooks ran a provisional time of 7.80 seconds in the 60 meter dash.

Elaine Johnson finished first in the 3000 meter run, followed by Lauren McMahon. They finished in 10:48.15 and 11:05.84, respectively.

Ashley Russo took first place in the 800 meter run, finishing in 2:22.37. Russo finished the 5000 meter run with a provisional time of 18:17.82.
