Saints Dominate in First Win

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Siena Heights women's soccer team earned its first victory of the season with a 3-1 triumph over Pikeville on Sunday afternoon. The Saints grabbed the lead in the 16th minute of play and never looked back.

Marissa Young got things going with a goal at 15:28 that put SHU ahead 1-0. The score would remain there for the rest of the first half.

Young then added an insurance tally in the second half off an assist from Emily Broman. That score ended up the game-winner, Young's first this season. Olivia Emert took a pass from Alyssa Fischer and beat the Pikeville keeper in the 67th minute to pull ahead 3-0. The Bears avoided the shutout with a goal in the final minute, but the Saints were the victors.

SHU dominated play, outshooting Pikeville, 28-7. Siena Heights took all 11 corner kicks of the game and peppered the goal with shots as the Bear's keeper was required to make 17 saves to keep the score as close as it was.

Quote from Coach: "We played exceptionally well. That was our third game in five days, all on the road and in the heat and humidity. We were dangerous all day long."
