Mount Vernon, Ohio – The Siena Heights women's soccer team lost a tough 3-2 decision to Mount Vernon Nazarene in the 2022 season-opening game. The Saints surrendered three goals in the second half to suffer the first defeat of the year.

Sarah Ammon was a force offensively as she scored both goals for Siena Heights on the evening. Her first tally came in the fifth minute of play when she scored off an assist from MacKenzie Stenzel to give the Saints an early lead. The sophomore forward netted an insurance goal four minutes later when she beat the keeper for an unassisted goal in the ninth minute. The 2-0 lead would hold as both teams entered the locker room at the half.

Rylie Henckel registered a shot on goal in her collegiate debut for Siena Heights. Parker Cheney, Avery Henckel, and Maddie Morris also made debuts for the Saints.

A goal from the Cougars in the 61st minute cut the Siena Heights lead to just a single score. The game's final two goals came in the 73rd and 75th minute to give MVNU the last lead in the contest.

Quote from Coach: "I felt we dominated the game and the opportunities, but we made mistakes in the back that gave the game away. We will need to regroup and try to play those mistakes out of our game."
