ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's soccer team earned a 1-0 win against visiting Adrian College inside of O'Laughlin Stadium on Wednesday night. The Saints (1-1-1) earned their first win of the 2021 season while the Bulldogs (0-1) started their campaign with a loss.

Marissa Young (Jr. | Genoa, Ohio) tallied her first goal of the new year in the 11th minute to give Siena Heights the 1-0 lead. Young scored the goal off an assist from sophomore Emily Broman (White Lake, Mich.) during a scramble in the box during a corner kick. SHU had a number of scoring chances during regulation, but couldn't capitalize on them. The Saint defense started strong as they held Adrian to just three shots in the opening 45 minutes. Two of those shots were blocked by SHU defenders, the third flew wide left of the net.

The second half saw a few chances for both teams. Young sent a header wide left in the 54th minute. Kara Bishop (Sr. | Allegan, Mich.) made her first save of the contest in the 68th minute to preserve the slim lead. She made her second save just over 30 seconds later to secure the shutout victory. Bishop finished the night with two saves to earn her first shutout of the year and improve her record to 1-0-1 between the pipes. The Saints outshot the Bulldogs 10-7 and also won 8-5 in corner kicks.

RECORD WATCH

Bishop continues to creep her way up toward cracking the top 10 in shutouts, saves, and minutes played. She is 3.5 shutouts, 20 saves, and 436 minutes from breaching the rankings. SHU women's soccer Head Coach Scott Oliver is just one win away from 250 after earning his 249th career win tonight.
