ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's soccer team made history on Saturday afternoon after a 1-0 home win over Indiana Tech in the team's season opener made it the first women's soccer college program to reach 450 total wins in the State of Michigan. Sophomore Marissa Young (Genoa, Ohio) scored the game's lone goal in the 23rd minute of the first half.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Siena Heights 1, Indiana Tech 0

Location: Adrian, Michigan (O'Laughlin Stadium)

Records: Siena Heights (1-0, 1-0 WHAC), Indiana Tech (0-3, 0-1 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints set the pace for the game early on leading up to the game's only goal in the 23rd minute of the opening half. Jennifer Richmond stole the ball from an Indiana Tech defender deep in the Warrior end and booted a low pass across the box right to Young's foot who pushed it past the goalkeeper and into the net. The Saints had another chance late in the first to extend the lead, but Tech's Christina Wynn (L, 0-2) made the stop to keep the game close.

The second half was much the same as the first, with the Saints dictating the pace. However, Wynn continued to keep Siena off the board and the Warriors in the game. Tech's best chance to get on the board came off a breakaway from a nice through-pass, but Kara Bishop (Allegan, Mich. | W, 1-0) made a diving save to preserve the SHU lead. The Saints had a couple more chances late, the first on a free-kick by Macy Llewellyn (Laporte, Ind.) and the second on a shot by Erin Tyson (Freeland, Mich.). Llewellyn's shot was on its way to the left side of the net, but Wynn made a diving save to punch it away. Tyson's shot was looking top shelf until Wynn got a hand to punch it up and over the net.
