Women's Soccer Defeats Madonna 2-1 in WHAC Tournament Semifinal

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Siena Heights women's soccer team withstood a strong second half surge by Madonna to win the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinal, 2-1, on Saturday. 

Samantha Bartelotti started the scoring for the Saints only 19 selconds into the game, finishing a rebound from a Taylor Mulder shot. Netting what would hold as the game-winner in the 28th-minute was Julia Stancato, finishing a shot far post from the 18-yard line.

The Saints handled a strong second half from MU as the Crusaders outshot SHU, 11-1. Scoring the lone goal for Madonna was Jamie Moceri, driving the ball in the upper right corner after a pass from Julia Henning. Overall, SHU was outshot, 14-9, as Madonna held an 8-5 corner kick advantage.

Danielle Eastman led the Saints with three shots, Bartelotti managed two shots. For the Crusaders, Nicolette Vultaggio took four shots, as Hannah Alston and Moceri each took three shots.

Siena Heights goalkeeper Meghan Bogg made two key saves to keep the Saints in the game in the second half, both heading into the upper corners of the goal, as she made seven saves in the final half. Bogg made nine saves overall to earn the win. MU keeper Julia Stewart stopped six shots.

SHU advances to the WHAC Tournament Championship, facing No. 2 Northwestern Ohio. Kickoff is set for Saturday, Nov. 11, game time to be announced.
