Strong Second Half Propels Women's Soccer to Victory Over MVNU

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's soccer team used a strong second half to defeat Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) 2-0 in non-conference action, on Saturday.

After a slow first half, the Saints put the pressure on the Cougars and scored twice in the second half. Emily Burkman converted a penalty kick in the 58th-minute and Erin Scheidel finished a shot that went through the keepers hands to add some insurance for the Saints' victory. In the final seconds of the game, Taylor Mulder had a 50-yard breakaway, but the MVNU keeper saved the final shot of the contest.

Four different Saints managed three shots: Samantha Bartelotti, Ashley Strong, Burkman and Scheidel. For Mount Vernon Nazarene, Morgan Gibson and Kamryn Cicolani each took four shots.

Winning goalkeeper Meghan Bogg made five saves for SHU while earning the shutout. Madi Moore stopped seven shots for the Cougars.

Siena Heights outshot MVNU, 20-14, while the Cougars held a 6-3 corner kick advantage.

Next up, SHU will host Saint Francis (Ind.) for their final non-conference game of the season, on Tuesday. Kick off is set for 4:30 p.m.
