#22 Marian Bests Women's Soccer in Non-Conference Action

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Siena Heights women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 contest to No. 22 Marian (Ind.) in non-conference action, on Wednesday.

Starting off the scoring was Mackenzie Hall for Marian (4-2), finishing a pass from Nicole Jansen in the 27th-minute. Less then a minute later, Siena Heights put pressure on the Knights' back line, causing a MU defender to head the ball into the net off of a SHU cross. The 1-1 score would hold through halftime.

The Saints maintained under pressure through the remainder of the contest. In the 54th-minute, Siena Heights conceded the game-winner in the 54th-minute as MU's Kellie Cavanaugh netted a pass from Chloe Ulmer.

Leading the Saints (1-4) with two shots a piece was Paige Rachut and Ashley Strong. For the Knights, Hall, Cavanaugh and Ulmer each took four shots. Siena Heights was outshot 21-6 as MU held a 9-2 corner kick advantage.

SHU keeper Taylor Hill stopped five shots while the winning goalkeeper, Breanna Malatestinic stopped four shots.

The Saints will return to action on Saturday in their home opener against Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio). Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
