Women's Soccer 2016 Season Wrap-Up

The Siena Heights woman's soccer team finished their 2016 season with a 12-6-2 overall record while finishing 7-3 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action. The Saints earned 12 WHAC Scholar-Athletes, 10 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, six All-WHAC selections, three NAIA Honorable Mention All-Americans and NSCAA All-Region performers and two NSCAA Scholar All-Americans.

SHU finished the season with 41 goals scored, averaging 2.05 goals per game. Defensively, the Saints allowed only 19 goals and finished the year with seven shutouts.

Samantha Bartelotti earned NAIA Honorable Mention All-American honors for the second year in a row, NSCAA All-Region Second Team honors, and First Team All-WHAC honors for a second time and was also named the Team Most Valuable Player. Bartelotti started all 19 games that she appeared in and led the team in goals (11), points (27), shots (74), shots on goal (45) and lastly, game-winning goals (3). She was second on the team in assists (5) and ranks 32nd in the NAIA for shots on goal per game (2.370).

Emily Burkman also earned NAIA Honorable Mention All-American honors for the second year in a row, NSCAA All-Region Second Team honors and First team All-WHAC for a second time. Burkman finished the season with four goals, two assists and 10 points. Recently, Burkman was named to the NSCAA NAIA Women's Scholar All-America Team.

Alexis Gainer also earned NSCAA All-Region Second Team and First Team All-WHAC honors. Gainer finished up with three goals on the season, two of which happened to be game-winners to go with four assists on the season. Gainer was also named to the NSCAA NAIA Women's Scholar All-America Team.

Kelsey Schoenberger, Taylor Mulder and Danielle Eastman each earned Second Team All-WHAC honors.

Erin Schiedel earned the WHAC Champions of Character Award for a second time. Rachel Sherman earned the Unsung Hero Award and was named Co-Most Improved Player of the Year along with Gabi Corbin. Lastly, Emily Loar earned the Coach's Award for character.

Junior goalkeeper, Meghan Bogg started 12 of the 13 games that she played in and finished with 1091:35 minutes this season in net. Bogg led the team with a 0.91 goals against average, 42 saves, a .792 save percentage and five shutouts.

Brittany Trout, Loar, Morgan Behn, Scheidel, Rebecca Penny, Meghan Kennedy, Kayla Cardeccia, Taylor Hill, Corbin and Sherman were all named NAIA Scholar Athletes for having an accumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher as junior or senior. Corbin, Trout, Loar, Behn, Scheidel, Penny, Kennedy, Cardeccia, Hill, Sherman, Gainer and Burkman were all named WHAC Scholar-Athletes for having a 3.25 GPA or higher as junior or senior. As a team overall, the Saints earned a 3.40 cumulative GPA.
