Randy Frailey Places 3rd at Adrian Invitational as Saints Kick Off Season

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's wrestling team finished seventh in the team standings as the team kicked off the season at the Adrian Invitational on Saturday. The Saints had two wrestlers finish in the top four of their respective weight classes on the afternoon.

Randy Frailey finished the day 4-1 as he won his first two matches to reach the semifinal round in the championship bracket at 133. His first victory came on a major decision (MD 10-2) over Brandon D'Egidio from Heidelberg. His second win was by decision (Dec 2-1) over Arlie Brown of Wabash. Frailey lost the next match by decision (Dec 3-1) to Kyle Sanders of Averett before recording a win over Ashtyn Bennett of Adrian by major decision (MD 13-4) to set up a rematch with Arlie Brown from Wabash in the third-place match. The sophomore from Litchfield, Michigan, earned a decision (D 6-3) in the match to claim the third spot.

Wesley Peters (197) finished the tournament with a 4-2 record in his debut for the Saints and claimed fourth in his weight class. His first match was a loss by decision (Dec  11-6) to Matthew Abraham of Toledo. Peters then rattled off four-straight wins in the consolation bracket to move into the third-place match at 197. His first win came from a tech fall (TF-1.5 3:32 (17-2)) over Jack Minner of Defiance. He then won his next three matches by fall. The first was over Braedan Kahl of Heidelberg (Fall 1:35), the second was over William Baldwin of Averett (Fall 5:50), and the last one over Jackson Beck-Calvert of Adrian (Fall 2:07). The Greenwood, Michigan native dropped his final match to Levid Rodriguez from Campbellsville by fall (Fall 2:09) to finish fourth in the bracket. 

Christopher Sorrow (2-2) was the other SHU grappler to place in his weight class. Sorrow fell by decision (Dec 13-7) to TJ Driessens of Wabash. He then won by fall over Kaden Blair of Toledo (Fall 3:51). Sorrow then lost by decision (Dec 9-4) to Evan Burge from Wabash before winning the seventh-place match by tech fall (TF-1.5 7:00 (22-4)) over Devan Johnson from Cornerstone.

Saint Debuts

The SHU men's wrestling squad had nine freshmen, including Peters, make their debut in a Saints singlet. Chase Packard went 1-2 in the 133 freshman/sophomore bracket. Dylan McLean finished 1-2 in the 149 weight bracket. Caden Holt competed in the 149 freshman/sophomore bracket. Mathew Dwyer participated at 157, while Gage Parker was 1-2 at 165. Kamari Bradley wrestled in two matches at 174. Brandon Rau also competed at 174 going 1-2 at the tournament. Nathan Burns was the final debuting SHU grappler as he competed at 285.

UP NEXT

The SHU men's wrestling team will travel next week to compete in the Grand View Open in Des Moines, Iowa, which begins at 9:00 AM.
