Christian DeLuna Highlights SHU Wrestling Debut with Fourth-Place at WHAC Tournament

SYLVANIA, Ohio -- The Siena Heights wrestling program made its debut in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday. Christian DeLuna (Weston, Fla.) highlighted the day with a fourth-place finish in the 285 point bracket. 

DeLuna lost his first match to Alec Moore-Nash of Lourdes by fall at 2:46. He moved onto the consolation bracket where he defeated Paul Nadeau of Rochester College by fall at 1:27 to advance to the semifinal round of the bracket. In that round, DeLuna won again by fall at 1:45, defeating Cody Mies from Lourdes to advance to the 3rd-place match. In that match, he faced Vernon Willis from Indiana Tech and was pinned at 4:07 to earn fourth place in the bracket.

Jack Callaghan also competed in the 285-pound bracket. He lost his first match to Ethan Bunce from Marian by fall at 3:29. In Callaghan's round 1 consolation match against Mike Landin from Cleary, he was defeated by decision 5-3.

Garnet Potter (Howell, Mich.) competed in the 174-pound bracket. He lost in the quarterfinal to Noah Cleary from Lourdes by tech fall (TF-1.5 5:00 (19-2)). In the consolation round 1 match against Cameron Simmons from Marian (Ind.), Potter lost by major decision (MD 13-2).

Coinciding with the WHAC tournament, the WHAC awards were released. SHU wrestling member, Gregory Mullinax was named to the WHAC Champions of Character Team. For a full list of the WHAC wrestling awards click here.
