Women's Lacrosse Has Tough Time With Marian in Home Opener

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's lacrosse team had a tough time slowing down Marian (Ind.) as it dropped its home opener, 17-7, in WHAC action on Saturday at O'Laughlin Stadium.

Hannah Merrick led the Saints (2-5, 1-1) with four goals while Emily Pringle chipped in with two goals and six draw controls.

Avah Holland also scored for SHU. She added an assisted and three caused turnovers. Jenna Allie made two assists. Claire Merrick and Melissa Bacho dished one helper apiece.

Siena Heights goalie Lucy Stedam accumulated six saves in the cage.

For Maria, Grace Martin and Ella Grace Giedd led the way with four goals each. Winning keeper Katherine Hirsch had five stops.

The visiting Knights (8-2, 3-0) jumped in front with the first three goals and never trailed. After taking a 7-4 edge into halftime, Marian potted nine consecutive goals to pull away.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. WHAC game at Madonna.
