#10 Women's Lax Edged by Ave Maria

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The 10th-ranked Siena Heights women's lacrosse team lost an 8-7 contest to non-conference Ave Maria on Sunday at neutral-site Cumberlands.

Annamae Martin and Sophia Baugh scored two goals each for the Saints (0-2) while Maitland Fuentes, Avah Holland and Emily Pringle put in one each.

Pringle also had three draw controls and three groundballs. Baugh added three groundballs. Hannah Merrick caused four turnovers.

In the cage, Lucy Stedam stopped five shots.

For Ave Maria, Orianna Eldridge and Abigail Seiler scored three goals apiece. Hannah McConologue made seven saves.

Siena Heights twice led at 4-3 and 5-4 before a three-goal run pushed Ave Maria to its own 7-5 edge early in the fourth quarter.

Holland and Baugh converted goals 58 seconds apart later in the fourth, pulling SHU even at 7-7.

Seiler scored the game-winning goal with 8:14 left.

The Saints will return to action Monday, March 6, at Saint Thomas (Fla.).
