Marissa Cirino Selected CoSIDA Academic All-America® First Team for Second Consecutive Season

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2022 Academic All-America® NAIA Women's At-Large Teams on Wednesday (June 15) afternoon. Siena Heights women's lacrosse senior midfielder Marissa Cirino earned first-team honors for the second-consecutive season.

Cirino is the only SHU women's lacrosse player to receive this honor. She adds this award to her growing number of awards this season, including NAIA First-Team All-America, WHAC Midfielder of the Year, First-Team All-WHAC, and WHAC All-Academic. In addition, the Canton, Michigan native was named WHAC offensive player of the week twice, IWLCA co-offensive player, and the defensive player once.

Cirino led the Saints with 79 points, 51 goals, 28 assists, 16-30 free positions, 60 ground balls, 129 draw controls, and 40 caused turnovers. The senior midfielder became the Saints' career points leader during the Bethel game on March 30 and set a new program record for draw controls in a game with 14 against Cleary on April 1.

"Marissa has been a key part of our team's success over the past few seasons," said SHU women's lacrosse coach Alexa Matta. "She is so deserving of this award and all the other honors she was awarded during her career. This back-to-back honor shows Marissa is among the best student-athletes in the NAIA."

The 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-America® NAIA women's At-Large teams consist of 20 student-athletes, ten on the first team and ten on the second, that compete in seven different sports from all over the country. Cirino is one of three women's lacrosse athletes to earn All-America status, one of two on the first team. The other sports represented are swimming, tennis, wrestling, golf, competitive cheer, and bowling.

The NAIA Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NAIA national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 NAIA Academic All-America® program.
