Marissa Cirino Named CoSIDA Academic All-District Women’s At-Large

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2021-22 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Women's At-Large teams on Thursday afternoon. Siena Heights senior women's lacrosse player Marissa Cirino was among the ten student-athletes featured on the District 1 team.

Cirino adds this award to her growing number of awards this season, including NAIA First-Team All-America, WHAC Midfielder of the Year, First-Team All-WHAC, and WHAC All-Academic. In addition, the senior from Canton, Michigan, was named WHAC offensive player of the week twice, IWLCA co-offensive player, and the defensive player once.

Cirino led the Saints with 79 points, 51 goals, 28 assists, 16-30 free positions, 60 ground balls, 129 draw controls, and 40 caused turnovers. The senior midfielder became the Saints' career points leader during the Bethel game on March 30 and set a new program record for draw controls in a game with 14.

"I am so proud of Marissa and all she has accomplished during her time here at SHU," said Saints women's lacrosse head coach Alexa Matta. "This is just another award that she has worked so hard for and deserves. She is not only a great athlete but an amazing student - as a coach, that's the best combo! Her leadership and dedication to this team are one of the reasons our program has been so successful these past few seasons."

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.

Cirino is one of three women's lacrosse players on the District 1 team. She joins three other athletes from Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference institutions. The other sports on the list are swimming, competitive dance, and tennis.
