Marissa Cirino Highlights the WHAC Honors for SHU With Midfielder of the Year Award; 12 Others Receive Yearly Awards

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights women's lacrosse team claimed one individual award and several All-WHAC team honors when the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference office announced the 2022 women's lacrosse award winners on Monday.

Marissa Cirino was named the Midfielder of the Year and was on the First-Team All-WHAC and the All-Academic lists. Emily Pringle joined Cirino on the First-Team All-WHAC and the All-Academic team. Alexis Kuhns, Madison Spell, Shelby Mueller, and Reilly Winn were all on the Second-Team All-WHAC. Winn was also on the All-Academic team.

"Playing such a tough schedule right from the start, this season has been an uphill battle, but this team dug deep to play us into a spot at the national tournament," said head coach Alexa Matta. "Marissa [Cirino], [Emily] Pringle, Lexi [Kuhns], Maddy [Spell], Shelby [Mueller], and Reilly [Winn] have been key parts when we've played top opponents all season."

Catherine Androwski, Bella D'Arcy, Kristin Delclos, Shanterra Holmes, Tori Jennings, Hannah Merrick, and Amber Soukup were also on the All-Academic squad. In addition, Soukup was the SHU representative on the Champions of Character team.

Cirino leads the Saints with 78 points, 51 goals, 27 assists, 16-30 free positions, 58 ground balls, 124 draw controls, and 40 caused turnovers. She is ranked in the top five in the WHAC in goals (4th), assists (3rd), points (4th), free positions (2nd), ground balls (2nd), draw controls (1st), and caused turnovers (3rd). The senior from Canton, Michigan, was named WHAC offensive player of the week twice, IWLCA co-offensive player, and the defensive player once. Cirino became the Saints' career points leader during the Bethel game on March 30 and set a new program record for draw controls in a game with 14.

Pringle has totaled 63 points, 45 goals, and 18 assists. She is 10-19 in free positions, has 22 ground balls, four draw controls, and six caused turnovers through the 17 games played during 2022. She had her best performance of the season against cross-town rival Adrian College when she scored seven goals and dished three assists for a 10-point game in the 21-14 win over the Bulldogs.

Kuhns has 39 points, 33 goals, six assists, 24 ground balls, ten draw controls, and three caused turnovers. She matched a career-high in assists for a season, and her goals and points marks are the second-best during her career. In addition, Kuhns has recorded eight hat tricks during the season, with her highest goal total coming against NCAA Division III Calvin during a 20-15 win over the Knights.

Spell has the third-highest point total on the team with 54. She has scored 35 goals and registered 19 assists. She is 11-13 in free positions, 23 ground balls, 80 draw controls go, and 13 caused turnovers. Spell has completed four hat tricks this season, including a six-goal game against Bethel on March 30.

Mueller set a career-high with her 18 ground balls this year. She also tallied her first career points with a goal and an assist on the season. Her goal came in the second contest of the season against NCAA Division III Hope College on February 23, while her assist was recorded in the WHAC semifinal game against Aquinas.

Winn has ten appearances and eight starts under her belt this season. She has scooped 13 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers while anchoring the defensive efforts for the Saints. This is her second-consecutive season being selected to the second-team All-WHAC roster.
