Saints Earn 2nd Place Seed in WHAC Tournament with Win Over Aquinas

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –  RV SHU women's lacrosse competed in the last regular-season game of the year against the RV Aquinas College Saints. Siena clinched a 13-9 victory, making their conference record 7-2,  to acquire the second-place seed in the conference tournament. 

Hannah Merrick (3-for-6) led the way for Siena Heights netting three goals, picking up six ground balls, causing three turnovers, and tallying one assist. Emily Pringle (3-for-9) scored three goals for the Saints collecting three assists and four ground balls. Catherine Androwski found the back of the net twice during the game while tallying four ground balls, and one caused turnover. Courtney Frankfurth put two points on the board for Siena, while collecting five ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Alexis Kuhns (2-for-3) netted two goals and tallied five ground balls. Marissa Cirino went 1-for-2, picking up two assists, four ground balls, nine draw controls, and caused three turnovers. Madison Spell earned one assist, picked up one ground ball, and won six draw controls. Goalie Emily Durr had six saved balls of the 15 she faced.

Siena struck first as Frankfurth netted the first goal of the game. Aquinas would score once in the first quarter, as would Pringle for SHU to make the score 2-1. 30-seconds into the second quarter, Cirino found the back of the goal furthering the visiting Saints' lead. Aquinas would tie the score at 3-3. The two teams traded goals during the rest of the quarter and RV Aquinas would lead RV SHU going into halftime 6-5.

A strong defensive showing from both teams held the opening minutes of the third quarter scoreless until Kuhns sunk a man-up goal, assisted by Cirino, to snap the dry spell, starting a run of five. Pringle, Kuhns, Merrick, and Androwski each scored during the run to take the lead, 11-7. Not slowing the pace, SHU put up two more goals in the final quarter to claim a 13-9 victory over Aquinas College.

Siena Heights women's lacrosse awaits the winner of the first-round WHAC tournament game between Aquinas College and Madonna University, which will be played on Thursday, April 21st.
