Saints Outpaced by No.1 Team in the Country

ADRIAN, Mich. – RV Siena Heights women's lacrosse hosted No. 1 Lawrence Tech at home in O'Laughlin Stadium for a Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) match on Wednesday, April 13th. The Saints fell to the No. 1 team in the nation 19-8, making their conference record 6-2 with an overall record of, 8-7. Siena Heights remains in third place in the WHAC conference standings with one game left to play. 

Leading for the home team was senior Hannah Merrick, who netted two goals while picking up one ground ball and causing one turnover. Freshman Courtney Frankfurth (2-for-3) found the back of the net twice while collecting one ground ball. Marissa Cirino scored once, caused three turnovers, and tallied four ground balls. Alexis Kuhns put one point on the board for Siena while scooping up two ground balls. Madison Spell earned one goal as did Emily Pringle who also tallied one ground ball. Goalie Emily Durr (L, 1-1) saw 26 shots on goal and made seven saves during tonight's game.

Siena Heights would be the first to score in the opening quarter to take an early lead over the Blue Devils. LTU would tie the score at 1-1 until a goal from Pringle allowed the Saints to regain the lead. The visiting team would tie the score at 3-3 with three minutes remaining and score two more goals to end the quarter 5-3. 

Merrick would be the first Saint to score in the second quarter and was soon followed by Frankfurth and Spell. The visiting Lawrence Tech Blue Devils outscored the Saints 8-3 during the quarter to make the score 13-6 going into halftime.

SHU would see one goal in the third which came from Merrick who netted her 19th goal of the season on a man-down play. In the fourth quarter, a strong defensive showing from Siena held the Blue Devils to only one goal. Kuhns would be the last goal of the game, scoring near the nine-minute mark, to net her 25th goal of the season-ending the game 19-8.

SHU women's lacrosse prepares for their last regular-season game against RV Aquinas College on Saturday, April 16th. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 PM in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
