Saints Pull Away Late in Game Against Madonna

ADRIAN, Mich. – Siena Heights women's lacrosse competed in a Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference match at home on Wednesday night, facing the Madonna University Crusaders. In tonight's game, Marissa Cirino netted her 200th career goal propelling the Saints to a 17-11 victory, making their record 5-1 in WHAC play.

Marissa Cirino paved the way for Siena shooting fifty percent from the field, scoring three times, tallying three assists and four ground balls, while causing two turnovers. Madison Spell (3-for-4) found the back of the net three times as she collected one assist and two ground balls. Emily Pringle put three points on the board for the home team and picked up two ground balls. Both Hannah Merrick and Courtney Frankfurth scored twice and collected one ground ball. Amber Soukup saw two for three from the field earning her second and third goals of the season. As both Kristin Delclos and Taylor Stockdale netted one goal for SHU. Sophomore goalie, Lucy Stedam (W, 5-5) saved six balls from finding the back of the net.

The Crusaders found an early lead netting the first point three minutes into the first quarter. Coming alive the Siena offensive machine produced four back-to-back goals taking the lead and ending the quarter 4-2. The second quarter saw a battle for control as both teams scored five goals in the fight for dominance. Pringle scored her 35th goal of the season near the two-minute mark to send the game into halftime with the score 9-7.

SHU created separation in the third quarter putting up five goals as the visiting team found only two. Freshman Taylor Stockdale found the netting with one second left in the quarter, scoring her first goal of the season. Now in command, Siena Heights continued to put points on the board as Merrick, Spell, and Soukup scored sealing the victory for the home team, to end the game with a final score of 17-11.
