Marissa Cirino Adds IWLCA Defensive Player of the Week to Her Season Awards

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Siena Heights senior midfielder Marissa Cirino was named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) defensive player of the week this afternoon when the organization announced this week's recipients.

Cirino totaled 36 draw controls during the past week of competition. She also set a new school record with 14 in the win over Cleary. In addition, she registered 15 caused turnovers and 22 groundballs. On top of her defensive effort, she also became the program leader in career goals in the win over Bethel (Ind.) on her way to a 24 point week total as she led Siena to a 3-1 week.

This is the first year that the IWLCA has awarded player of the week awards for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Cirino was the first SHU women's lacrosse player to receive a weekly award from the IWLCA when she was named co-offensive player of the week last week. She makes history again this week by being the first defensive player of the week and the first SHU player to win both offensive and defensive awards.
