Cirino Adds to Record-Setting Week in Win Over Cleary

HOWELL, Mich. – Siena Heights women's lacrosse competed in the Lake Trust Stadium on the campus of Cleary University, Friday night in a Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) game. During the game the Saints would net 21 balls against the Cougars for the victory, extending their conference record to 4-1, and moving into third place in the conference standings. 

Leading SHU against Cleary was Marissa Cirino who scored five goals, tallied two assists, picked up five ground balls, and caused three turnovers. The Canton, Michigan native also set a new school record of draw controls in a game, winning 14 during tonight's game, breaking the previous record of 13. Courtney Frankfurth shot 4-for-7 on the night while tallying three assists and two ground balls. Madison Spell added three points to the board, along with collecting two assists. Catherine Androwski (3-for-5) scored three times and picked up three ground balls. Both Emily Pringle found the back of the net twice during the game to reach 26 goals on the season, Pringle also caused one turnover and tallied two assists. Amber Soukup shot 2-for-3 and picked up one ground ball. Both Alexis Kuhns and Kristin Delclos scored once, and each held one assist.

The first quarter started with a ground ball pickup from Julia Porchetta that allowed the Saints to march down the field and score, putting the first point on the board. The Cougars would score once near the 10-minute mark, it would be the first of two goals scored in the quarter. Siena started a scoring run late in the quarter putting up nine consecutive goals, totaling 11 during the quarter to go into the second leading 11-2.

A strong defensive front from SHU held the home team to a scoreless second quarter. Cirino, Frankfurth, Pringle, Spell, and Androwski all scored once in the second quarter.

Coming out of halftime Delclos found the back of the net early thanks to an assist from Kuhns who won the opening draw control. Kuhns would score herself near the 13-minute mark assisted by Frankfurth. Androwski and Cirino also put points on the board with unassisted goals furthering the lead to 20-3 at the end of the third. Cleary would score first in the fourth, adding a total of two goals during the quarter. Soukup would be the only Saint to find the back of the netting in the last quarter ending the game 21-5.
