Saints Fall on the Road to Cardinals

Ann Arbor, MICH. -- The Saints played a rainy-day game at Ferry Field against the national ranked #9 Concordia University (Mich.) Cardinals. SHU picked up 14 ground balls and found the back of the net 18 times. Although, the Cardinals would be victorious with an ending score of 21-18 making Siena Heights record 2-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.  

Offensively, Marissa Cirino led the Saints with five goals, shooting 5 for 5, and held three assists as well as five ground balls. Courtney Frankfurth added four more points to the scoreboard, shooting 4 for 6. Catherine Androwski found the back of the cage three times and collected one ground ball. While both Hannah Merrick and Alexis Nicole held two goals and a combined effort of three ground balls. Madison Spell and Emily Pringle each scored once and held three assists apiece. Sophomore goalie, Lucy Stedam (L, 2-5) saved five balls for Siena Heights.  

The home team would be the first to light up the scoreboard and would continue to lead during the first quarter with a score of 6-1. Androwski who was assisted by Cirino, would be the only goal for the visiting Saints.  

SHU outscored Concordia (Mich.) in the second quarter 6 to 5, thanks to a quick goal less than a minute into the quarter from Androwski. Which started a four-goal run helping Siena Heights close in on the Cardinals, ending the first half down by four points.  

The Saints would again outscore the home team in the third, as Pringle netted goal No. 16 for the season near the 14:00 minute mark. Siena cruised mid-quarter, finding the back of the cage three times in a row. At the end of the quarter, the visiting team trailed by only three points.  

Concordia (Mich.) started strong in the opening minutes of the final quarter, putting down four goals, making the score 20-13. Not to be detoured SHU answered with four goals of their own. The two teams each exchanged another goal in the last thirty seconds of the game. Unfortunately for the Saints, the first quarter would be their undoing as they fell by only three goals, to the Concordia University Cardinals, 21-18.
