SHU Ends Spring Break with a Loss to #4 Life University

Marietta, Georgia – Siena Heights University women's lacrosse took on the 4th nationally ranked team, Life University, Friday, March 11th. The Saints, currently ranked #9, fell 19-12 to the Running Eagles, concluding the 2022 Spring Trip.

Madison Spell led SHU, netting four goals, collecting one assist, and three ground balls. Alexis Nicole followed, collecting three goals, shooting 3 for 3 while tallying two ground balls. Marissa Cirino held two goals adding one assist to the books as well as four ground balls. Hannah Merrick added one goal to the score and boasted six ground balls. As Emily Pringle collected seven ground balls and put up one goal. Kristin Delclos also netted one goal for the blue and yellow.

Opening the game, the Saints did not wait long to find the net, Nicole scored within the first 45 seconds thanks to a turnover by the Running Eagles and a ground ball by teammate Pringle. Nicole would score once more during the quarter and Spell would score twice. SHU only trailed by one point heading into the second quarter.

The scoreboard saw little action during the second half, only seeing two goals come from Life and one from Siena.

The Saints were quick to strike in the third, netting a ball early in the opening minute. Life University retaliated by firing off two speedy goals of their own. Nicole scored around the 12:45 minute mark, play continued, full of turnovers and fouls for both sides. Cirino caught the back of the netting on a man-up free position shot at the 6:00 minute mark as did Spell, who added her last score to the board ending the third quarter with a score of 15-9 in favor of the Running Eagles.

Delclos sank a goal with an assist from Pringle early in the fourth. Siena continued to add points to the board as Pringle netted one on a man-up free position shot. Life University would add three goals to their score until Brianna Freeman found the net on a man-down goal at the 4:00 minute mark. Cirino netted one final goal for the Saints with 50 seconds left on the clock to finish the game 19-12.
