Saints Lose Heartbreaker Against Hope College on Wednesday Night

HOLLAND, Mich. – The SHU women's lacrosse team fell to NCAA Division III Hope College in Wednesday night's game. The blue and yellow took 17 shots on goal, finding the net on 14 shots. The SHU goalkeeper fended off 12 shots of the total 28 taken by the flying Dutch.

Emily Pringle led Siena Heights with six goals, shooting 6-6 on the night. Marissa Cirino tallied three goals, also shooting 3-3 during the game. Madison Spell put up two goals and three ground balls for the Saints. While Bella D'Arcy, Sophia Baugh, and Shelby Mueller all netted one goal each. Lucy Stedam collected five ground balls for SHU during the fight against the Flying Dutch.

Siena Heights scored first with a goal from Marissa Cirino at 13:23 during the first quarter. Hope answered with two goals back-to-back. Each team would score five goals going into the second quarter tied.

SHU's Emily Pringle struck first for the Saints with a quick goal to start the second quarter. The flying Dutch answered by winning the following draw control to score eight seconds after Pringle's goal. Hope College would score twice more and Siena only once the remainder of the quarter.

Striking first again was the blue and yellow led again by Emily Pringle, her third for the season. Shelby Mueller would follow, gaining her first goal of the 2022 season at the 9:22 minute mark. Two more shots from SHU and one from Hope College put the score at 11-9 in the Saints' favor.

Hope was the first to score in the fourth, with a free position shot thanks to a Siena foul. Pringle rallied SHU putting up two more goals. A goal from Hope at the 6:39 mark would lead to three goals in a row to take the lead and secure the victory for the Flying Dutch, the final score being 16-14.
