10th-Ranked Saints Cruise to a 25-5 Win Over Cleary at Home

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The 10th-Ranked Siena Heights women's lacrosse team cruised to a 25-5 win against WHAC opponent Cleary on Saturday afternoon. Marissa Cirino led the Saints with seven goals and three assists. Madison Spell also tied the second-highest program record of most draw controls in a single game with 11.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints set the pace scoring four straight goals in the first six minutes of the game from Madison Spell, Jenna Sommerville, Marissa Cirino, and Kristen Delclos with assists from Marissa Cirino and Jenna Sommerville. Sydney Dickerson netted Cleary's first goal at the 23:22 mark. SHU went on to score four straight goals from Marissa Cirino, Madison Spell, and Jenna Sommerville with Emily Pringle earning an assist. The Cougars earned three more goals in the first half as Jordan Bloch, Mallory Tognetti, and Sydney Dickerson found the back of the net. Siena gained a huge cushion putting up eight more goals in the half for a 19-4 lead.

Cleary scored their final goal of the game four minutes into the second half when Jordan Bloch slotted one past Elizabeth Elliott off a pass from Mallory Tognetti. The Saints gained some insurance as they earned six more goals in the half from Amber Soukup, Ashlyn ChildsTori Tidswell, Emily Pringle, and Rachel Heicher with assists from Marissa Cirino and Alexis Nicole earning them the 25-5 win. 

TOP SAINTS

Marissa Cirino also tallied 11 shots on goal, five ground balls, three draw controls, and one caused turnover.

Jenna Sommerville tallied five goals, two assists, seven shots on goal, and two ground balls.

Emily Pringle recorded four goals, one assist, seven shots on goal, and four ground balls.

• Madison spell had three goals, three shots on goal, one ground ball, and 11 draw controls (tied second-highest record in a single game).

THE OPPOSITION

• Jordan Bloch led the Cougars with two goals, four shots on goal, one ground ball, two draw controls, and one caused turnover.

• Sydney Dickerson earned two goals, two shots on goal, three ground balls, one draw control, and four caused turnovers.

• Mallory Tognetti recorded a goal, an assist, four shots on goal, five ground balls, one draw control, and four caused turnovers. 

• Anna Clark (L, 0-2) made nine saves off the 34 shots she faced in goal.
