10th-Ranked Saints Sneak Past Pilots on the Road

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- The 10th-Ranked Siena Heights women's lacrosse team had a close 19-15 game against WHAC opponent Bethel (Ind.) on Tuesday afternoon. Marissa Cirino led the Saints with six goals and two assists on the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints struck first within the first three minutes of the game when Emily Pringle found the back of the net off a pass from Alexis Nicole. The Pilots went on to score five-straight goals from Hope VanProyen, Jenna Crockett, Becca Broadwick, and Jenna Cooper with assists from Jenna Crockett for the 5-1 lead. SHU tied things up earning four-straight goals by Alexis Nicole, Marissa Cirino, and Tori Tidswell as Marissa Cirino also had an assist. Bethel found the back of the net two more times in the half from Sarah Konecny and Marissa Berg. SHU had three more goals for the 8-7 lead at the half Marissa Cirino, Jenna Sommerville, and Emily Pringle had goals. 

Jenna Sommerville opened the second half with a goal for Siena in the first minute. The Pilots cut the deficit to one goal as Hope VanProyen slotted one past Mariah Smythe from Jennifer Cooper. The Saints had five-straight goals to gain some cushion as Alexis Nicole had three goals, Marissa Cirino had one, while Kristen Delclos had her first goal of the game. Jenna Sommerville, Marissa Cirino, and Katherine Tapia recorded assists. For the remainder of the half, Bethel tallied four goals compared to SHU's five with them in the lead 19-12. The Pilots gained some momentum the remainder of the half scoring three-straight goals when Jenna Crockett, Sarah Konecny, and Jennifer Cooper netted balls with an assist from Becca Broadwick that made the game close but not enough to take the win away from Siena.

TOP SAINTS

Marissa Cirino tallied eight shots, seven of which were on goal two ground balls, and four draw controls. 

Jenna Sommerville and Alexis Nicole respectively recorded four goals.

Emily Pringle had three goals, five shots, and two ground balls.

Mariah Smythe led the Saints between the pipes with six saves off the 16 shots she faced.

THE OPPOSITION

• Hope VanProyen led the Pilots with five goals, six shots on goal, three groundballs, and one draw control. 

• Konecny, Sarah Konecny tallied three goals, six shots on goal, one groundball, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers.

• Jennifer Cooper, Becca Broadwick, and Jenna Crockett all recorded two goals.

• Samatha Swope had five saves off the 24 shots she faced in the net.
